The purpose of this text is to present reflections on teacher training and development of mediator practice reading at school. For this, teachers’ speeches were elected on the difficulties surrounding the teaching and learning of reading. Three types of speech are analyzed: that teachers have a diagnosis about the difficulties of their students, those who present their own difficulties to teach the student to read, finally, are also analyzed speeches about how is the teaching of reading. The data analyzed were the result of research carried out in two states of the Brazilian federation, São Paulo and Minas Gerais, during the period 2003 to 2010. From our analysis, we assume the hypothesis that teacher training remains a potent mediator of the major challenges being faced within the course degrees. The dialogic conception of language and subject, as defended by Bakhtin, is mobilized to support this point of reflection.
