Refugee children in their displacements: a double representation

Abstract

This paper deals with the representation of refugee children in illustrated books. It contextualizes brazilian children’s literature, exploring topics considered sensitive, with an emphasis on those with a political focus, also discussing their transformation into a product by the publishing market. It exposes the illustrated books as a creative expression and analyzes four illustrated books on the topic. It concludes that the representation of childhood in the selected works is inseparable from that assumed for its ideal reader, that is, children who narrate their painful experiences, having in others the exercise of listening.
